A little north to the seaside suburb of Grange, there's the opportunitiy to spoil yourself with an unhurried few hours over a breakfast at The Cooks Pantry is a smart move.
Here, the freshness of the food and coffee is matched only by the gentle ocean breezes that drift through the café’s interior and alfresco areas…and you’re bound to be warmly greeted and welcomed by long-time owner and chef James Bodroghy.
James presides over an operation that’s an ample expression of his passion for using local and fresh produce in all his meals.
With all breads house-made, you might like to settle for a slice or two of banana bread with generous lashings of salted caramel butter, or perhaps grilled fig and walnut bread served with fresh fruit, honey and ricotta. For those with a heartier appetite, there’s a few James’ signature breakfast dishes such as the mildly spicy poached eggs with Mexican avocado salsa served on spelt – or for the softer palate, the eggplant bruschetta with rocket, pomegranate and walnuts on focaccia.
There’s an equally appetising lunch menu for those wishing to take it especially easy, while it’s also worth remembering that if you happen to be in town on a Thursday evening, James’ cosy cooking classes are well worth considering. While the options are broad and include everything from Fabulously French and Modern Middle Eastern to Seafood Surrender and Wholefood Plant Based, classes are limited to a maximum of 10 participants.
They start at 6.30pm, run for some three hours and include detailed recipe notes, as well as the chance to sit down and enjoy the prepared meals over convivial conversation.
