Don’t be fooled by the name, for while the great game  is the common bond at AFL Max , the 5,500-square-metre indoor facility offers a whole lot more for the whole family.

In fact, you don’t even have to like footy to experience bucketloads of fun such is the layout of the facility, where footy-focused activities such as kicking, passing and tackling nestle comfortably alongside a spread of zones featuring, among others, a rock climbing precinct of 14 climbing walls of varying difficulty where foot, hand and eye coordination is honed, an expansive trampolining area, an interactive screens section and a soft play zone with its inflatable bump course.

The brainchild of former Geelong and Adelaide AFL star and current AFL Max Managing Director, James Podsiadly, and opened some 15 months ago in July 2019, it’s the realisation of a dream to create a safe and interactive family entertainment and training venue, where everyone feels welcome and the goal is unashamedly to get kids active and ensure that they have fun to the, well, max!

Currently the only facility of its kind in Australia, AFL Max is open to the public on weekends and public holidays and is particularly popular as a party venue for children in the five-to-12-years-of-age group. Party guests are assigned their own party room, the food and drinks are provided and a dedicated AFL Max host takes them through the full suite of activities.

Parents, too, are catered for at the fully licensed upstairs café, where they can watch their children in action while sipping on a barista-made coffee or something a little stronger, and enjoying a parent party platter or a snack from the café menu.

On weekdays, AFL Max is abuzz with school and other groups revelling in fun excursions or partaking in curriculum-aligned programs such as ‘A Day in the Life of an Elite Sportsperson’, where they learn about the importance of developing healthy lifestyles and positive wellbeing by being immersed in  strategies used by elite sportspeople.
